Jacquard & Digital Adjacent Weavings

2003–2013

This section brings together selected textile works drawn from larger, multi-modal projects that also extend into digital media, bioart, and performance. While these works exist within broader constellations of WhiteFeather's practice, they are presented here in relation to one another to showcase their shared foundation in complex weave structures. The works span both computational and hand-operated textile systems, including Jacquard weaving and traditional Danish damask weaving, an intricate specialization. In a related digital-adjacent work, traditional overshot weaving is used to encode segments of DNA data. 

In the Jacquard-based works, CMYK (6-colour) warp design is used to construct images through layered colour interactions, where resolution emerges from the interlacing of threads rather than surface application. The image is generated through structure, with colour and form distributed across the warp and weft. The damask work engages with historical weaving techniques that produce reversible patterns through shifts in satin structures. 

These works have been shown widely in international venues, such as Ars Electronica, Subtle Technologies Festival, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and more.
