DIY MICROGRAPHY

2014-2015
These images were captured using a hand-built smartphone microscope assembled by hacking components from existing tools, during a workshop with BricoBio, a DIYBio group in Montreal, whom WhiteFeather was a member of. These techniques were then later taught by Hunter at the Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology, within the Speculative Life BioLab, where WhiteFeather served as PI.
Several images depict handmade histology slides, prepared through the dyeing of mammalian tissue using traditional staining techniques, while others were captured from found vintage microscopy slide collections. Samples include pig fetus, human facial bone, intestinal worm, human lung, mouse cerebellum, chicken wing bone, rat kidney, and cochineal beetle.
