MILF

MILF was presented as a floor-based work during the Montreal Erotic Art Festival, held at Foufounes Électriques. Installed directly underfoot, the piece positioned spectators and participants in an immediate relation of contact, presenting a simple but charged decision upon entry: to step on the image or not.

Responses ranged from oblivion to hesitation, from visible discomfort to deliberate acts of trampling. These reactions became integral to the work, revealing a spectrum of attitudes toward the sexualization of maternal bodies. Positioned at the intersection of fetishism, feminism, and objectification, MILF operates less as a fixed image than as a social and material encounter.

The work extended beyond the floor through a companion garment worn by the artist during the event: a black leather jacket spray-painted with the text “MYLF.” This gesture reclaims and repositions the acronym, shifting it from external projection to self-inscription. In contrast to the horizontal surface subjected to collective contact, the jacket operated as a vertical, embodied counterpoint, asserting agency while remaining within the same field of visibility and interpretation.

As bodies moved across the surface of MILF, pressure, friction, and repetition produced visible change. Scuff marks, cracks, and imprints accumulated over the course of the event, registering the presence and behaviour of participants. Even after the festival, when the surface was mopped by bar staff, these traces remained embedded, resisting full erasure.
