SQUIRRELY

dooryard logo.jpg

2011

Appropriated YouTube footage from two separate videos, edited and spliced with captions added. Squirrely juxtaposes two contrasting encounters with the squirrel body: in one, a child affectionately handles a dead squirrel while her parents film, later instructing her that she needs to take a bath; in the other, a young boy is taught to hunt squirrel so his mother can prepare “squirrel melts.” Despite these differing contexts, both videos generated similar forms of online hysteria within comment sections.

Squirrely was installed as a storefront window display during the Dooryard Arts Festival in Woodstock, NB.
