WhiteFeather Hunter and Bioart Coven Featured in FUNGI: Creatures & Cultures

WhiteFeather Hunter’s work has been featured in the newly released hardcover volume FUNGI: Creatures & Cultures: Unearthing the Ancient Wisdom and Modern Wonders of the Mycological World by Kit Ondaatje Rolls.

Hunter is featured in two sections of the book. In the chapter “Witches & Alkaloids,” Rolls introduces the Bioart Coven as a community of ecofeminist artists and biotechnologists who use biotechnology as a tool for feminist, collaborative, and counter-hegemonic practice. The chapter situates the Coven within broader histories of witchcraft, fermentation, herbalism, and women’s knowledge traditions.

A later section highlights Hunter’s own artistic research, discussing her pioneering work with menstrual blood, feminist biotechnology, and DIY laboratory practice. Her projects are presented alongside the work of other contemporary practitioners who challenge cultural narratives surrounding disgust, contamination, biotechnology, and the politics of the body.
